Winner of The Guardian’s National Short Story (2009), shortlisted and longlisted for the BBC Short Story Award (2013, 2017), longlisted for The Sunday Times Short Story Award (2017), and Highly Commended and longlisted for The Bridport Prize (2014-2017): Lisa has a decade’s worth of teaching experience in the short form and can provide a taster of what it’s like to study the act and art of short fiction at university level. But don’t let that put you off! This course is for all writers of all stages and incredibly welcoming and supportive of new writers too. It will be chock-full of creative prompts to inspire, to challenge your idea of the short story, to get you to explore different directions, and, most importantly, share your writing in a relaxed and informal workshop environment. She will introduce you to award-winning short stories, short stories that shouldn’t be short stories, short stories that have inspired her own writing, and also take you through the history of the short form by looking at classic texts over the last century. This course will get you writing, keep you writing and believe in your writing!
Lisa will share my industry knowledge where possible, especially since she’s been lucky enough to have had a steady success rate in terms of competition placings and publication, so can offer much advice, guidance and support in terms of your own writing and where to place it. And as you know, Lisa will have many stories to share!
